Melissa Vela-Williamson, CAAM is an award-winning practitioner with over 15 years of general market and multicultural integrated marketing communications experience in agency, corporate and nonprofit settings. As a certified agency account manager, she is uniquely qualified to assess the needs and provide extraordinary service to clients. She's directed communication strategy for brands such as H-E-B, La Familia Cortez Restaurants, Hilton San Antonio Hill Country, Zachry Corporation, Texas State University, Meals on Wheels San Antonio, City of San Antonio Metro Health and Office of Sustainability departments, Pre-K 4 SA, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, Big Brothers Big Sisters, IBC Bank, and many more. The 2015 PR Professional of the Year has received industry recognition for both her individual and work product accomplishments. To date, she is the only professional in the city to receive both the Horizon and Professional of the Year professional awards from PRSA San Antonio. In 2018, MVW Communications’ Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas 100th Anniversary of Cookie Sales campaign was also the only campaign in the city awarded the PRSA La Plata Award of Excellence and first-place Marketing Excellence Awards in the nonprofit/governmental category with the American Marketing Association San Antonio. In addition to her agency work, she is a professional workshop facilitator, leading sessions for Spurs Sports & Entertainment, CPS Energy, and Alamo Colleges Workforce Network. She is also a frequent guest speaker at local college campuses.
As a fully integrated communicator, Melissa's managed multiple disciplines including public relations, advertising, community relations, event planning, volunteer recruitment/management, employee communication and diversity. Specialties include Hispanic, nonprofit, education, environmental, diversity, and corporate clientele. A published creative writer, Melissa has crafted copy throughout her career - from media materials to van wraps. Her breadth and depth of experience inspires her 360º approach to communicating.
A past president of the PRSA San Antonio chapter, Melissa has represented San Antonio at the PRSA International Conference and is currently VP of Programs. She is a 2018 graduate of the Latina Leadership Institute and a past grad of the Alex E. Briseño Leadership Development Program, both of the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. She’s also an alum of the Alamo City Black Chamber of Commerce’s E.P.I.C. Leadership Development Program.
In the community, she serves as Marketing Chair for the Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas’s newly established Marketing Committee, served as the co-chair for the 2018 San Antonio Food Allergy Heroes Walk, volunteers with Girl Scouts Troop #384 and provides The Children’s Shelter of San Antonio with pro bono consultation. She's insatiably curious and stays on the cutting edge of trends and best practices through professional development, reading, listening to podcasts and strategic networking.
