Melissa Vela-Williamson, CAAM is an award-winning practitioner with over 14 years of general market and multicultural integrated marketing communications experience in agency, corporate and nonprofit settings. As a certified agency account manager, she is uniquely qualified to assess the needs and provide extraordinary service to clients. She's directed communication strategy for brands such as H-E-B, La Familia Cortez Restaurants, Zachry Corporation, Texas State University, Pre-K 4 SA, Girl Scouts of Southwest Texas, Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Texas, IBC Bank, and many more. The 2015 PR Professional of the Year has received industry recognition for both her individual and work product accomplishments. To date, she is the only professional in the city to receive both the Horizon and Professional of the Year award from PRSA San Antonio. In addition to her external relations work, she also serves as a communication coach for executive and corporate clients who want to hone their interpersonal skills or shape their personal brand.
As a fully integrated communicator, Melissa's managed multiple disciplines including public relations, advertising, community relations, event planning, volunteer recruitment/management, employee communication and diversity. Specialties include Hispanic, multicultural, health and wellness, nonprofit, education, and corporate clientele. A published creative writer, Melissa has crafted copy throughout her career - from media materials to van wraps. She also communicates visually as an event and lifestyle photographer for clients through her photography division, Melissa Sandy Photography. Her breadth and depth of experience inspires her 360º approach to communicating.
Melissa earned a bachelor's degree in English/Communication Arts from St. Mary’s University and a Master of Arts in Communication at the University of Texas San Antonio. A past president of the PRSA San Antonio chapter, Melissa recently represented San Antonio at the PRSA International Conference and is currently Professional Development Chair. She's insatiably curious and stays on the cutting edge of trends and best practices through professional development, reading, listening to podcasts and strategic networking.
